In less than a month from now, Weezer will be dropping their seventh studio album, Raditude, and many Weezer fans (myself included) are anxiously awaiting this release with their breath held.

It’s no surprise that the last few Weezer albums have continued to polarize their fans in ways only bands like Metallica knew how.  I can remember distinctly the excitement leading up to the Red Album and how many were proclaiming that it would be the band’s glorious return to their roots… Only to be incredibly and sorely disappointed.

The first single (and track) from the album has already been released online and many people have been listening to it for weeks now.  The general consensus that I hear is that yet again, it’s not what the old-school fans are wanting.  As someone who falls into that camp, I’m inclined to agree for the most part.  However, while I was generally disappointed with the Red Album, it had a few tracks that really showed some potential in the new direction the band has been heading.  I’ve been holding out hope that Raditude will embrace some of that potential I saw, but so far I am still left sitting on the fence.

However, the album turns out, I know it will sell a bajillion copies, and I will be one of the people out buying it on day one.  I just hope that the band that used to hold my attention and love so dearly can recapture some of that magic again.

Fortunately, the CD cover has already helped to do that.
